In sports every now and then records are created.  The records however do not last forever as they are broken and new records are set.  However there are some records which are permanent.  If a sportsman is the first to achieve a milestone that stands forever.  For example if a batsman is the first to score 1000 runs in cricket'  then his  record is more significant than the one who surpasses it with 1001 runs because the one who got 1000 runs has the distinction of the being the first to cross the 4 digit barrier in tests. Another player may get to 2000 runs, it would not carry that much importance as  the next significant milestone will be 10000 runs i.e. the first to reach five digit figures.  In cricket Indians are fortunate to be the first to get into certain significant milestones in the history of game.

1) Sunil Gavaskar scores 10000th run in Test Matches at Ahmedabad on 7th March 1987:- Sunil Gavaskar became the first cricketer in the history of Test Matches to cross 10000 runs in Test Matches.

2) Chetan Sharmas hat rick on 31st October 1987 in Reliance World Cup at Nagpur:- Chetan Sharma became the first ever bowler in the history of one dayers to take a hat trick in World Cup.  Chetan Sharma also became  first ever bowler in the history of one dayers to achieve a hat trick without the help of a fielder or umpire by clean bowling all the batsman.

3) Sachin scores 10000th run in ODIS at Indore on 31st March 2001:- Sachin Tendulkar became the first ever cricketer in the world to score 10000 runs in the history or one dayers.

4) Ajit Agarkar takes 50 wickets in debut year at Harare on 30th September 1998:- Ajit Agarkar became the first ever bowler in the history of one dayers to take 50 wickets in debut year.  Agarkar made his ODI debut on 1st April 1998 at Kochi  and took his 50th wicket on 30th September 1998 at Harare.

5) Sachin all round record 10000 runs and 100 wickets at Margao on 6th April 2001:- Sachin Tendulkar became the first ever cricketer in the history of one dayers to score 10000 runs and 100 wickets.

6) Ajit Agarkar takes a wicket of first ball of career in T20 at Johansburg on 1st December 2006:- Ajit Agarkar got a wicket with  his first ever delivery in T20 career. This is the first time ever a player has taken a wicket of first ball in T20s.  Incidentally Agarkars first over in T20 cricket was a wicket maiden.  The match also saw a reluctant India make its T20 debut.

7) Yurraj Singh hits six sixes against England at Durban:- Yuvraj Singh became the first ever cricketer in the world to hit six sixes against a bowler belonging to a Test playing country.  Yuvraj Singh got his runs of Stuart Broad who represents England which is a Test playing country. Gibbs too hit six sixes in 2007 ODI World Cup but his runs were scored against Netherlands which is a non test playing team.  Players who got six sixes prior to that i.e. Ravi Shastri and Gary Sobers got against first class teams Baroda and Glamorgan respectively.

Indians hold many more world records in cricket, but the above list pertains to only those records wherein the players were the first to achieve distinctions in their respective fields.
