India's record at Kanpur
Hi friends in this article let us discuss about India’s chance of winning the second test match, and that too from the ground point of view, i.e. will India make use of the Kanpur pitch to take a lead in this test series. There were lot controversies over the Ahmedabad pitch as it was very much batsman friends and could not able to produce a result. Moreover it also produced a total of 1598 runs with 7 centuries and only 21 wickets. But on the contrary the history of Kanpur pitch is very interesting and the recent match here resulted in a result within three days. So the curator of the Kanpur pitch must take care that it doesn’t produce a similar result in 3 days.
When we consider previous records of Kanpur pitch, India has played 20 test matches here and managed to win 5 test matches. They also draw 5 matches and drew 12 matches here and the winning percentage here will definitely help India. India also got the highest runs in this ground by scoring 676/7 against England in 1986.This pitch also favored bowlers and Kapil Dev is the leading wicket taker in this ground with 25 wickets. Kumble takes the second position in leading wicket takers list with 21 wickets. Harbhajan took 7 wickets in the last match played here in 2008 against South Africa.
Last year, in 2008, India played a match in Kanpur against South Africa, and India won the match very easily by 8 wickets and that too in within 3 days. This result of the match in 3 days, made the ICC to warn BCCI regarding Kanpur pitch and they also threatened to ban if the same condition follows. So the future of the ground lies in the hand of the curator, because he is facing a couple of problems, one being the pressure from the BCCI as the first test didn’t produce any result and the most important thing being warning issued by ICC last year regarding the pitch.
With Prasad not playing in the test match, Ajantha Mendis replacing him and Sri Lanka playing this test match with three spinners will feel that they can perform well and can make India all out with a less score. But with all the Indian batsmen in good form, I guess we can give a very good performance and can win this match. Coming to the Indian side, India made a couple of changes, with Sreesanth replacing Ishant and Ojha replacing Amit Mishra. Since Ishant not in good form, he is replaced by Sreesanth and hope that Sreesanth does well in this test match and hope we proves his talent and gets a permanent place in the team.
