Cricket is a passion in India. Inpsite of being cricket being a passion in India our cricketing knowledge is restricted to knowledge of performances of Indians, our neighbours and Sri Lanka and Pakistan or at the best to performances of Australians.
In India we do not regard minnows Bangladesh, Kenya or Zimbabwe very highly. Even if a talented player from Bangladesh team, who are the best among minnows and capable of surprising any team in the world on a given day, gives a decent performances we tend to disregard their performances and prefer not to speak about them saying it is a fluke. We often have this tendency of dismissing performances of minnows.
One player who has been very consistent in international cricket is Shakib Al Hasan, the skipper of Bangladesh. Shakib Al Hasan has been exceptionally consistent with the bat and ball in Test Matches and On Dayers. Not many cricketers ever in the history of cricket can boast of very high levels of consistency giving all round performances match after match and series and series after series in Test Matches and One Dayers and that is what exactly Bangladesh Shakib Al Hassan has been doing since the last couple of years.
Shakib Al Hasan who was born in 1987, in his short international career comprising of Test Matches and One Dayers has done exceptionally well scoring 2762 runs at an average of 34.10 with 4 centuries and 15 half centuries. Shakib Al Hasan has also taken 131 international wickets at average of 29.59. Shakib Al Hassan held the number one ranking by ICC for bowlers in one day internationals is currently ranked No.2 in world, Presently Shakib Al Hasan occupies the number one ranking for all rounders in One Day Internationals.
Sunil Gavaskar had remarked after the conclusion of first test match of the ongoing series betwen Sri Lanka and India, that Mahela Jayawardena performances are not talked about much, because he comes from a smaller country. Mahela Jayawardena can still take pride in the fact that he is household name all over the world, while Shakib Al Hasan inspite of giving exceptional performances is not known to many Indians.
