About Delhi

Delhi is the capital of India. It lies on the bank of Yamuna River in the northern part of India. It is also called the center place of India. Delhi Capital region includes many famous cities like Bhagpat, Gurgaon, Sonepat, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Noida, Greater Noida etc. This state includes many famous historical monuments and buildings. Some of them are Red Fort, lotus temple, Akshardham temple, Rajghat, president’s house, Qutub miner  ,Humayun tomb, Yogmaya temple, India gate, iron pillar, Supreme court, institute of technology, institute of medical science, Pitampura TV tower, Birla mandir, Delhi zoo, Shaktisthal, Indira Gandhi museum, Jantar Mantar etc.

 Delhi is a political hub of India in one side, in other side it has many glorious features to visit. So come to Delhi to see many historical places and monuments with some latest creations. Here are some details about some famous places:

Red fort

it is also called as Lal Qila. It was constructed by the Mughal emperor Shahjahan. Its construction was completed by 1648 but after that some developments added to give some attractive look. Now it is a world heritage site. The fort was constructed with red sandstone and so called as red fort. On 15th august every year prime minister of India hoists National flag at red fort. It is a famous monument and thousands of visitors come here to visit every year. Now a light and sound show is organized to describe the story of fort in every evening. It is a popular destination in old Delhi. On 2000 a terrorist attack was happened and after that security is tightened around the fort.

Akshardham Temple

Swaminarayan Akshardham temple is a traditional Hindu mandir. It was opened on 6th November 2005 and its surprising matter is that 3000 Volunteers and 7000 artisans constructed this temple and was built on the basis of Vastu shastra. It displays the traditional Hindu culture with Indian culture and spiritually, architectures are also most attractive of this temple. There is also a musical fountain and also gives a message about the early life of Swaminarayan. There is a beautiful landscaped garden here. The temple has 141ft height, 316 ft width and 110 ft long and covers with details of flora, fauna, dancers, musicians and deities. Architectural style is famous and attractive also. The temple was constructed with famous Rajasthan pink sandstone and Italian marbles and without any support of steel and concrete. The temple has 234 designed pillars and nine domes and 20,000 statues with 148 scale sized elephants. There is a statue of Swaminarayan under the central dome. Some other attractive features are Narayan Sorovar, Yogi Hridoy kamal-a famous lotus shaped garden. This temple was also presented by many rewords wit Guinness World record as a largest comprehensive Hindu temple.

It is a memorial place of Bapuji (Mahatma Gandhi). It is a black marbled platform which marks of Gandhijis cremation. It is left open to the sky and a flame burns in one corner. It lies on the bank of Yamuna River. All visitors must remove their shoes before entering this holy place. The Samadhi of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru is on the north of Raj Ghat, which is known as Shakti Van. The total area is very peaceful. Many visitors and foreign Ambassadors also visit this holy place.

President’s house

It is said as Rastrapati Bhabana, which is the official address of president of India. It has 340 rooms in the main building. It has a beautiful garden also. This building is famous for various Indian design and architectures.

Qutub Minar

It is also a famous heritage site and the tallest minaret in India. It was made of red sandstone and marbles. It has 379 stairs and 237.8ft height and with an abse of 14.3 meters diameter. Qutub-uddin-Aibok started the construction of this tomb but finished by Illtutmish. This miner is also used as watch tower now.

India Gate

It is a National monument of India and situated in the centre of New Delhi. It is also known as All India War Memorial. It was built in the memories of those soldiers, who lost their lives in World war and Anglo-Afgan war. Amar Jawan Jyoti- a flame is burned continuously in the memories of our beloved Indian soldiers. On republic day a parade with some attractive tablows starts from Rastrapati Bhabana and passes through India gate.

National Zoological park or Delhi park

It is a renowned home of 1350 animals with almost 130 species of animals and birds from various sides of world. There s a nice safari system here. Battery operated vehicles are used to visit the whole Zoo. Visitors can see on foot also. One important matter is that visitors are not allowed to take any food from outside except drinking water. Hippopotamus, spider monkey, Black deer, Antelope, Lion tailed macaque, white Tiger; Emu are some special attraction of this Zoo. This Zoo is famous and model to other Zoos of our country.

Jantar Mantar

It is located in modem city with 13 architectural astronomy materials. This astronomical instruments are used to predict times and also movements of the Sun, Moon and other members of solar family. Samrat Yantra, Ram Yantra, Joy Prakash Yantra, Mishra Yantra etc are some famous instruments here. It may be famous and interesting destination for many astronauts.

Indira Gandhi Museum

It is a museum with many memories of former and renowned prime minister Late Indira Gandhi. First it was the residence of Indira and after her sudden death it was converted to museum with some rare collections of photographs and usable things. It is a white bungalow with a beautiful garden.

Temples of Delhi

I have already discussed about some architectural wonders like Akhasardham temple and Lotus temple. Above these there are some more temples in Delhi like, Chattapur Mandir, Iskon temple, Sai Baba Mandir, Birla Mandir, Kali temple, Hanuman temple etc. Birla Mandir is famous and also attractive. Jama Masjid is a famous mosque in Delhi also.

There are many other famous places in Delhi. It is a attractive tourist destination to the whole world. This is a sacred place of many renowned personalities. Come and visit and this may be a life time achievement of life.

Some useful tips

  • Don’t carry too much cash as ATM facilities are available in Whole Delhi.
  • As it is a crowded city so prefer prepaid taxi services.
  • Don’t travel alone at night and avoid unknown people. If you face any problem get help of Delhi police.
  • Follow the rules and regulations in various places, temples and sacred places.
  • Try to maintain the cleanliness in all places.
  • Prefer to carry drinking water along with. In some places mineral water is not available.
  • Stay in reputed hotels.
  • Delhi Metro is a good option to move here and there.
  • Februaryto March and September to November may be the best time to visit.
  • Don’t take food from any road side stall.
  • Camera may be prohibited in some places. Some where it may be allowed by giving some fees.
