T : Could an an expert car driver or a car race champion repair a car?
Certainly not. But if he faces some minor problem while driving he can attend to the fault and set it right.
For example if there is any loose connection in wire or if there is any deviation in bolt or nut he can correct it. Any driver will be having that level of knowledge in mechanism. But they cannot attend major faults.
Similarly an expert mechanic can take a test drive to check the car after servicing. But he cannot do any gimmicks or he may not enter into a car race and win the race like champions.
Of, course always there are some exceptions for anything and there may be few persons who may be experts in both driving / racing and in servicing.
Now if you compare our computers with this illustration, every software engineer should have at least some basic knowledge about hardware and every hardware engineer should have at least some basic knowledge about software.
S : Sir, Can’t a person become an expert in both the divisions?
T : Why not Kanna? If you have interest, hard work and time to learn and practice you can become an expert in both the divisions.
But now if you are seeking an urgent job opportunity, first you learn the basics of hardware and software, and you seek and right job and then you specialize in the division in which you are interested.
S : Sir, I feel I am getting a better picture of what I have to do.

S : Sir, In my school days I have studies something about Generations of Computers. Now I would like to know clearly what does generations of computers means and what is the significance o the computer generations?
T : Sure Kanna, I shall explain you that in details.
Actually this generations of computers is slightly a technical history of development of computers.
The computers what you see and use has not been invented in a single day by a single person.
I had traveled a lot of years and it has a contribution of lot of scientists and its evolution is a lengthy history. That’s what you would have studied in your school days.
