Yoga Exercises For Eyes

It is well said that eyes are the windows of our soul. Eyes are the most integral part of human body as any other human organs. Eyes help us to see the beautiful world and colorful nature. Now-a-days as the world is advanced with the technologies, everyone needs to use computers for some or other purposes. Due to constant use of computers or any electronics, the muscle of our eyes loses its tone ,becomes weak and ultimately vision is impaired. Hence the eye exercises or yoga is necessary to maintain the tone of eye muscles and vision.

Yoga For Eyes - Yoga exercises strengthen the muscles of eyes and relaxes the mind with the help of meditation, asanas and pranayam.

Following are some yogic eye exercises - Yoga for eyes can be performed best in the morning or in evening with sitting straight. Initially it will be difficult to perform the exercises for longer time, but you can gradually increase the time period.

  • Shavasana - Always begin your exercise with shavasana which is also called as corpse pose. Lie down on the floor with eyes closed, palms facing the roof and legs should be shoulder -width apart. Try to relax all the body parts. Do not move, remain in the position for 5 minutes. You will start feeling some kind of energy in your body and mind feels calm. shavasana

  • Eyes- up and down - Open your eyes widely. Focus your eyes to the upper nose between your eyebrows without blinking and moving your head as much long as possible. Then focus your eyes to the tip of nose with blinking or moving head. Atleast do this exercise 5 times. Then close your eyes and relax
  • Eyes-side to side - Look all the way to the right and then left without turning your head. Do it 5 times on each side as long as possible. Then close your eyes and relax.
  • Eyes-around- Open your eyes wide. Look the clockwise from 1 to 12 clock. Then revolve your eyes anti-clockwise from 12 to 1 clock. Do it 5 times or as much as possible then close your eyes and relax.
  • Meditation for vision - Lie on your back with palms facing the roof with legs shoulder-width apart. You can also do this exercise while sitting in chair.
    Close your eyes and place your palms on the eyes lightly. Start breathing slowly through your stomach, continue 5 breaths and then open your eyes. Then look at the ceiling fan or wall with empty mind. Do not stare or strain your eyes while looking at it.
  • Sungazing - Sungazing is the exercise to train your eyes and improve the strength of eye muscles. The best time to start sungaze is during sunrise and before sunset. Initially start for 5 minutes then gradually increase the time length. sunglaze
    Start the exercise at the peaceful place where sunlight fall directly. Sit or stand straight. Close your one eye with the palm and watch the sun with other eye without blinking as long as you can. It will be difficult for first few days to look at the sun. Repeat the same exercise with other eye. If you do this exercise everyday you will never need sunglasses and your eyes will always remain stronger.
  • Acupressure points for eyeseye pressure points                                                                                                                                                                 1) Press the point located at the bridge of nose which is the point where eyes and nose meet and nasal bridge starts.

         2) Press and massage the point with the tip of finger in the middle of your eyebrows on both sides.

         3) Press firmly and massage the point on the either sides of your temples where the eyebrows end.

         4) Press firmly and massage the point underneath the pupil.

These points are pressed firmly but not too hardly as they may cause pain. Repeat these exercises 5 times every day with gradual increase in the time length.
