As everyone around the world is making a conscious effort to become healthy  through enhanced awareness of health hazards and lifestyle disorders. Here health means a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of diseases. In the wake of maintaining good health a few simple changes have to be made to one’s own lifestyle. The changes include the following important modifications :-

1)      Eating a Balanced Diet and on time :- In order to maintain weight or good health it is absolutely essential to eat proper food and that too on right time. Our body needs essential nutrients and a balanced comprised of proteins, minerals, vitamins and carbohydrates. Proteins are essential building blocks of our body and are worn out and should be replaced from the food we take comprising of  any one of these soybeans, grains, meat, milk, cheese, yogurts, corn, nuts, beans, peas, lentils or eggs on a daily basis. Vitamins like A, D, E, K, C and B are essential to improve vision, healthy skin, maintain calcium, fight free radicals, blood clotting etc. Carbohydrates provide fuel to the body to function efficiently and these include various grains, vegetables, fruits and legumes.

2)      Moderate Exercise :- It is equally important to have some form of moderate activity daily to keep our muscles and reflexes active and well lubricated. Exercise can be in the form of brisk walking, jogging, Yoga or even climbing stairs and should be made a part of one’s day to day activity rather than allocating a separate time schedule for it.

3)      Adequate Rest :- It is a proven fact that stress causes a lot of disturbance in one’s physical as well as mental health and can play havoc in one’s life without adequate sleep and rest. In order to improve the sleep pattern, make a light reading before going to bed, sleep in comfortable clothes, have a glass of warm milk, do not have too much or too less lighting in your bedroom and lastly do not go to bed immediately after a heavy meal and maintain a gap of at least  2 hours before going to bed.

Having said the essential elements of having a well balanced healthy life, all of us need to modify it according to one’s lifestyle, work pattern and convenience. There is no hard and fast rule in leading a healthy life as long as we are able to follow the basic principles mentioned above though not in totality. Last but not the least leading a balanced life makes a man Healthy, Happy, Wealthy and Wise.
