The camel and the goat

One day a camel and a goat went for a walk. They came to a farm that was full o tall trees all along the fence. Since the fence was very high, they could not get into the farm. But they saw many green branches hanging over the fence.

Because I was tall, the camel ate up the tender leaves until its stomach was full. The goat did not get any leaves to eat. The camel laughed and said, `O friend goat, it is better to be nice and tall’.

They walked on. Soon they reached a vegetable garden. This time the goat saw a small gate was open. It rushed in and happily ate up plenty of fresh, juicy vegetables. The camel was too big to get through the gate. After eating its fill, the goat came out and said to the camel, `O friend camel, don’t you think it is sometimes better to be small?’’

The camel and the goat both understood that it was good to be as each was made.

The camel used to eat a lot

Abu the camel used to eat a lot. So he was fat. And he had a big hump.

But one day, Abu stopped eating. For days he ate nothing. His hump became smaller and smaller. Soon he had no hump. That made Abu very sad.

Chaturdas the fox shouted, `Look! Abu has no hump!’ and all the animals laughed. After all, a camel without a hump does look funny, doesn’t it?

Abu said.

` I know why Abu has no hump now. He hasn’t been eating!’ said kavita the elephant. Don’t forget that everything a camel eats goes into his hump!’

Abu now knew why his hump had gone away. He began to eat once again. Slowly, his hump grew bigger.

It is so big now that it has made some of his camel friends unhappy!

Donkey and wolf

One day a donkey was walking along a path in the jungle. In the distance, he saw a wolf coming towards him. The donkey said to himself, `The wolf will surely kill me,’ the donkey thought of a plan. He began to limp. The wolf reached him. `What I the matter?’ he asked. `Why are you limping?’

`I have a big thorn in my back foot. Would you please pull it out?’ said the donkey.

`What a foolish donkey! I can now bite off his leg’, thought the wolf.

The donkey lifted one of his back feet. As soon as the wolf stood behind him, the donkey kicked the wolf in the mouth and ran away.

Why the hippo has a tiny tail

A long time ago, only the lion had a tail. The other animals had great trouble with flies and other insects. They cold not keep them off because they had no tail.

One day, the lion decided to give tails to the other animals. The animals rushed to get them. Only the hippo did not go. He was lazy and decided to eat, rest, and then get his tail.

The first animal to reach the lion was the fox. So he picked up the best and the best bushiest tail. Then the squirrel Came, the wild horse, and the wolf. They took the tails they liked from the pig pile of tails.

By the time the hippo got up from his long sleep, it was evening. He remembered that he had to hurry to get a tail. He rushed to the lion’s den. There was only one tail left. No other animal had wanted a thin, tiny tail!

All the animals could now chase away insects with the tails they had chosen. But the hippo’s tail was too small to chase insects away. All these flies went after him. He rushed into the river and sat in the water.

Even today, the hippo sits in water most of the time with his useless little tail- all because he was not on time to choose his tail.
