Freddie, the frog, was feeling very sad. He was feeling so lonely that he wanted to cry aloud. You know why was he feeling so sad? It was raining heavily and he was remembering the wonderful games he played with his friends in the rain. His large eyes were brimming with tears. Freddie was sad and lonely because all his friends had deserted him.

Freddie stayed with his friends near the river. They ate small insects found in the marshy land and their time was spent in playing and jumping in and out of the big river. In their time was spent in plying and jumping in ad out of the big river. In the afternoon they sat under the tree where the cool wind always soothed them to sleep. Freddie was enjoying every bit of his life. But one day his happiness came to can end. All his friends shifted to the other pond.

Freddie could not go because, he was born and brought up here and he could not even think of going anywhere else.

Dear Freddie was left all alone. He was remembering his friends when Tope, the elephant, happened to pass by. Seeing Freddie all sad and dejected, he asked, `Freddie, my friend, what happened to you? Why are you so sad?’ Freddie narrated the whole episode to tope. Now tope was a very kindhearted soul. Hearing Freddie’s pathetic tale he said, `Now who said you don’t have any friends? I am your best friend. I will play with you.’ saying this he picked up Freddie by his big trunk and together he two friends enjoyed the cool showers.

Friends are as important in our life as our parents or teachers. A child who does not have any friends remains sad. Friends are people who think alike. Your friends study and play with you. You share your innermost thoughts with your friends.

You talk to them. You discuss your problems with them. You feel lonely without your friends.

True friends are very hard to find. Some people are very selfish, they are friendly till the time they find their friends to be happy. Once their friend is in trouble or has problems, these so called friends leave him. Friends should be sincere, understanding, dependable and caring. Friendship is not only playing or talking together. True friendship is to understand your friend and always try to help him out whenever he is in trouble.

You have read about he two friends who were crossing the jungle when a large bear attacked them. One of the friends deserted the other fellow and quickly climbed a tree. The other person did not have any other option but to lie still on the ground. The bear sniffed him and walked away thinking he was dead. Bears do not touch a dead person. The other fellow climbed down the tree and asked his friend, `What did the bear say in our ear?’ his friend replied, `He warned me against friends who run away during troubled times.’

God is our best friend. He never leaves us. He is always with us. We can talk to Him whenever we want. He listens to all our problems very patently. He guides and takes us gently on the path of goodness.

He is our best friend, philosopher and guide.
