There are lot of similarities between Sachin Tendulkar and Muthian Muralitharan.  They hold similar types of records in their respective areas.  Some similarities between Sachin Tendulkar and Muthian Muralitharan  are:-

1. Sachin Tendulkar is the highest run scorer in the history of Test Cricket and One Day Internationals..  Muthiah Muralitharan is the highest wicket taker in Test Cricket and in One Dayers.

2.. Sachin Tendulkar has scored the highest number of centuries in Test Matches and in One Dayers.  Muthiah Muralitharan holds the record for having taken 5 or more wickets in a innings in Test Matches.  However Muthiah Muralidharan is in second place with regard to most 5 wickets in an innings.  Legendary paceman Waqar Youinis is the record holder.

3. The records for highest individual score and best bowling in an innings in Test Matches  have eluded both the masters, Sachin Tendulkar and Muthian Muralidharan.  The batting records for highest individual scores in Tests and ODIs are held by Brian Lara and Saeed  Anwar'  while Jim Laker and Chaminda Vaas hold the records for best bowling in a innings in Test Matches and One Dayers respectively.

4. Both of them have certain unnoticed skills.  Sachin Tendulkar has the knack of picking up crucial wickets with deliveries which even  regular bowlers cannot bowl.  Similarly Muthian Muralitharan though not as successful with the bat as Sachin Tendulkar is with the ball is known for getting crucial runs in crisis.  Similarly Muralidharan though is only a tail ender plays some innovative shots like intentionally hitting the ball over the wicket keepers head and getting runs.  Both of them are innovative in their additional skills though Muralidharan is not as consistent in his batting as Sachin in his bowling.

5. When it comes to captaincy again both are similar.  Sachin Tendulkar has been a failure as a captain, while Muthian Muralidhran was never considered to lead Sri Lanka.

Apart from similarity in records their careers were also similar.  Both of them started playing for weaker teams in the early portion of their careers.  Initially Sachins role was that of a match saver as there were hardly any batsman to support him.  In early days Muralidharan role was to contain the batsman and bowl lots of overs as there was no support for him.  Both the players graduated to match winners for their sides as Sri Lanka look to win matches because of a decent  bowling line up good enough to support a attacking Murali.  These days Sachins role is that of a match winner because India has one of best batting line ups in the world.

Both of them never the got the best  umpires as Sachin Tendulkar repeatedly got bad decisions in his career while Muthian Muralidhran had to undergo a greater torture as he was repeatedly called for chucking.
