Is Rahul Dravid Re-inventing His Test Career?

Rahul dravid the very name spells class and there pops up right before your eyes a cricketer who truly epitomizes whatever cricket stands for . Just spare a thought on his emergence into the test arena and his evolution as a batman of solidity and substance which earned the other name “Mr. Wall”. He was a true wall between many a victory and many a defeat. As a cricketer with such superlative success record, he still remains a polished , unassuming character who could be a role model for not only senior and budding cricketers but also people belonging to other walks of life.

Rahul Dravid made his debut in the away series against England in 1996 along with Sourav Gangully. It was a torrid baptism and a remarkable and rare event in the sense both of these batsmen carved a niche for themselves in the pantheon of Indian cricket. While Dravid was singularly unfortunate to miss out on his debut hundred but Saurav produced one of his best sparkling hundred to announce his arrival in test cricket. In fact, Rahul was an important member of the trio along with the greatest , inimitable and only one Sachin Tendulakar and Saurav Gangully and they complemented one and another and succeeded in producing some of the finest moments of India cricket. A selfless cricketer and always a team man unfortunately was not as successful as captain.

Rahul was made captain under very controversial circumstances and started losing his touch for which he was so famous. Anyway, every cricketer faces what cricket pundit calls a lean patch. Fortunately for Indian cricket in the case of Dravid such patches were only for a brief spell. The selectors too grew impatient with him and axed him form the shorter version of the game. But Rahul Dravid belongs to a rare breed of cricketers who take their cricket very seriously and has once again proved the point very firmly and convincingly by producing a string of starry performances. Two glorious back-to-back centuries against the touring Srilankan Test Side. He has absolutely made it clear once he decides to leave the scene he will do so in a blaze of glory.
