The game of kite-flying is very much liked by Indian boys.  Many elderly men also take part in it.  Kite-flying is really an interesting pastime.

A kite is generally made of a thin piece of coloured paper.  The paper is almost square in size.  Two thin strips of bamboo are pasted with gum to this paper.  On strip is straight and the other curved.

The kite is tied to a long thread.  The thread is wound roung a reel.  One can fly a kite if there is wind.  One man holds the reel in his hand.  Another man takes the kite and goes to a distance.  Then he throws the kite upwards.  The man with the reel pulls at the thread, and the kite rises up in the sky.  The flier then loosens the thread and sometimes winds it.  In this way, the kite rises to a great height if the flier is an expert.  There is a particular season for the flying of kites.

Kite matches are very interesting.  In this match one man tries to cut the thread of another.  For this purpose the thread is sharpened with a boiled paste made of people gather round the fliers.  They clap their hand or shout when the thread of the ribal's kite is cut and the kite begins to fall.  The man who can cut the thread of his rival wins.  The match continues till it is dark.

Kite-flying gives us great pleasure.  It may quicken our eyesight.  As this game is played in the open air, the player's health is some times happen to kite-fliers.  Kite-flying requires an open place.  In the villages, it takes place in open fields.  But in towns, it is flown from the roofs of houses.  The kite-fliers sometimes give all their attention to the kites.  They forget that they are on the roofs of houses and while moving backward, they fall down from the roofs.  Thus many of them lose their lives.
