A well read man will be more informed and not necessarily intelligent. Intelligence is the capacity to correctly apply knowledge for practical issues.

Neither, I know many old aged persons who never went to school but are intelligent enough then there are well educated fools wandering all around our societies displaying their so called intelligence.

A well-read person may or may be intelligent and an intelligent person may or may not be well-read. Well, reading a lot can obviously make us wiser but it is not mandatory that wisdom can be gained only through reading, it can be acquired through many different ways.

A well read person is surely intelligent, but that kind of "intelligence" has to be acquired through experience. On the other hand, you can have a intelligent person, but that doesn't mean he's well read. He can be a prodigy in some field but may not know a thing about life, compassion, empathy. A good example can be Will from the movie "Good Will hunting" as an intelligent person and Sean as well read.

An intelligent person acquires knowledge through many sources, not necessarily through books . For him, the entire world is a book and every aspect of the world is a page for an intelligent person. Owing to this reason, in my view an intelligent person is well read.

A well read person is not necessarily intelligent but an intelligent person can be well read. Difference between the two is that an intelligent person usually is curious enough to keep feeding his/her intelligence with more knowledge by reading more books. But in case of a well read person, the activity of reading may not be necessarily out of urge to become wiser or brighter but can only be means of passing time and hence whatever he or she reads may not be used to assimilate knowledge or retain it as part of learning process!

I think, intelligence can come only through reading books. I mean, books and any print material can make a person intelligent. Even if a person is already in the category of being intelligent, it can improve if he is well-read. And if one keeps the eyes and ears open and observe things around, he can become knowledgeable too.
