A minor can open account  under guardianship of his parents. Banks have specially designed minor accounts. There is no difficulty in depositing a cheque in minor's bank account. The sixteen year old cousin can deposit the cheque in his 'minor account'.

In this connection a link shwing facility given by Axix bank for openin bank account of minor is given below. Minor account is also allowed bvy othe banks.

You can only have a crossed cheque drawn in the name of a minor and a minor can have an account with a guardian who needs to sign each time a cheque is used !

Now any one can have an account in bank with the help of parental guidance. Schools are also helping/encouraging their students to open bank accounts.
