How many variety of fishes are there in the world for the purpose of consumption?

Friends many of us love to eat fish. Can anybody guess the number of variety of fishes found in the world for the purpose of consumption?

There are probably hundreds of varieties of fish that may be eaten all over the world. Many varieties of fish that indigenous to different parts would be unknown to people from other parts. So it is quite difficult to estimate the exact number, but you can start maintaining a record of all types of fish you eat. Talk and interact with people from other parts and make a note of the variety eaten by them. I am sure you will be able to get at least 25% of the varieties eaten all over!
