It will be difficult to name any one film as being the greatest but the one that beats all the other movies, in my opinion is Gone With The Wind followed by the Star Wars series.
In Marathi, The best movies until now are Simhasan and Samna, both based on political scenario in India.
While in Hindi, there are many like Mugh-e-Azam, Anarkali, Gumraah, Do Bigha Jameen, Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, Mother India and the best one Sholay!
"Lagaan" is my favorite Bollywood movie.
"Gladiator" is my favorite Hollywood movie.
in Tamil I like "Sethu" very much.
"Kireedam" is my favorite Malayalam movie.
I like Hindi movies. All movies have some speciality. All flowers have different aroma. Very hard to say which is best. But for me Chak De India is best one sports film.
It is difficult to pin point any one film as the best since there are films in many languages , made in India and abroad which are all equally good - In recent years the one film that I really liked is 'Swashank redemption'....

As there are lots of movies in this world and as you are not mentioned that the movie is from bollywood or hollywood
so in hollywood i like THE AVENGERS
and in bollywood i like SADDA ADDA
