Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-94) was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. He studied engineering and law at the university. At the age of 21 he decided to become a writer. He is popular for Treasure Island, Kidnapped, the stange case of Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

Jack London (1876-1916) was an American short story writer and novelist. His works include the Call of the Wild (1903). By him was the most widely read writer in the USA.

Herbert George Wells (1866-1946) was an English writer. He was a pioneer of science fiction with such novels as The Time Machine (1895), The Invisible Man (1897) and the War of the Worlds (1898). Wells also wrote many short stories.

Mark Twain (1835-1910) is the pen name of Samuel Langhorne Clemens. He was an American writer. He established his reputation with the comic masterpiece The Innocents Abroad (1869) and the classic American novels, The Adventure of Tom Sawyer (1876) and The Adventures of Huckleberry Film (1885). He is recognized as one of America’s finest writers.

Johanna Spyri (1827-1901 was a Swiss writer. She wrote many children’s stories set in the Swiss mountains. Heidi 91881) is her most popular work.

Ruskin Bond (1934) is an Indian writer. He has writer many books for children describing life in the Himalayan foothills. Most of his stories and poems reflect his total empathy with nature and his deep love for animals. Angry River, The Blue Umbrella, An Island of Trees, and Tigers Forever are some of better- known works.

Oscar Wilde (1854-1900) was an Irish writer. He was a playwright, novelist, essayist, and poet. He published his only novel, the pitcher of Dorian Gray in 1891, followed by a series of comedies, including A Woman of No Importance (1893) and the Importance of Being Earnest (1895). He published poems (1881), and wrote fairy tales and other stories.

Bradbury Raymond Douglas (1920) is an American author.  He is best known as a writer of science friction. Some of his works are The Martian Chronicles (1950), Fahrenheit 451 (1953), and R is for Rocket, S is for Space 91962). Some of his short stories are collected in The Stories if Ray Bradbury (1980).
