In the history of the World, Africa is usually described as "Dark Africa". It has considered a backward, undeveloped and under privilged area. Civilization and its finer aspects have not reportedly reached this large continent. In "Africa Speaks", Michael de Anang advances a powerful argument in favour of Africa.

Anang says that it is wrong to call Africa a dark continent. This false description was given at a time when knowledge was scant and vision was short. The poem is a monologue spoken by Africa. The African continent answers the question raised by the poet. "I can't be called dark continent, I raised the regal pyramids. My wealth and beauties attracted the conquering Caesars."

The Nile river is one of the wonders of Nwture. It is a life giving river. On its banks was born the ancient Egyptian Civilization. The NIle river gave the Western countries a Grecian gift to live the life happily and leisurely with satisfication and peace of mind. It is true that the industrial science and technology have not reached the countries of Africa. They are backward in these fields. Therfore, the dazzling glare of iron and steel, sometimes makes men ignore the old and simple bows and arrows. Therfore men called Africa, a dark continent. But there is one thing more important than science and industry a technological progress, the art of living, the teanquil art of thinking together and living together.

Under the clotted roots of the royal palms, Africal says that it keeps a treasure that none can measure. It is not the dark Africa. The dawn is to be seen now. Africa is able to see a rich warm glow in the East.

Thus, "Africa Speaks" contradicts the care of dark continent. Africa has always been rich in rituals, communal living and religions concept. As the poet points out, the ancient Egyptian civilization is world famous. In future Africa will shine and the poem is full patriotic feelings.
