Know you LPG’s Expiry Date

Consumers are educated by LPG service providers in several ways, regarding the LPG usage, pre-caution measures, steps to be taken when something untoward happens etc.

Beyond all these, still there is one more point which every LPG consumer has to be aware and this is a rare piece of information which has not yet spread over like other LPG safety measures.

That is, every LPG cylinder has an expiry date. The consumer when taking the delivery of LPG cylinder should check whether the cylinder has expired or not. If the cylinder is expired then the consumer should insist the delivery man to take back that piece and replace it with an unexpired piece. This is the basic right of every consumer and no one can deny this right.

If an expired cylinder is taken and consumed, the risk of leakage is very high in expired cylinder and this may lead even to fatal accidents.

How to find the expiry date?

One of the top stems of the cylinder is painted and something like “A.10” or “D.11” will be written.

This indicates the expiry date of the cylinder.

“A.10”

Here A indicates the first quarter, i.e., Till March and 10 indicates last two digits of the year, i.e., 2010.

So a cylinder marked with A.10 must be used before March 2010.

Similarly,

B. – Second Quarter, before June

C. – Third Quarter, before September

D. – Fourth Quarter, before December

One more illustration:

"D.13"

Here D indicates last quarter, so the cylinder must be used before December 2013.

So please observe this from now and wish you a happy and safe cooking at your kitchen.
