Children’s day 14th November
Every year we celebrate children’s Day on 14th November. It is the birthday of Jawaharlal Nehru, our first prime minister. Jawaharlal Nehru loved children. They called him Chacha Nehru.
Nehru was very interested in science right from his schooldays. Once, he read about the telescope. He tried to make a telescope at home. However, he needed help. So, he went to Mr. Brooks, his tutor and asked him for help.
``Why do you need to make a telescope?’’ asked Mr. Brooks. ``you can use the one in our school.’’
``Sir, I want to make a telescope on my own. I want to see the universe,’’ replied Jawaharlal Nehru eagerly.
Mr. Brooks was happy at Nehru’s interest in science and helped the child to get all the material needed to make a telescope. The young boy looked with awe at the universe which now seemed o `close’ to him.
His interest in science increased as he grew. When he was the prime minister, he once said, ``only a scientific approach can take India to the top of the world.’’ he always encouraged the study of science and technology.
Chacha Nehru’s love for science helped him to think clearly.
``Science teaches us to person, to think straight, to tell the truth, and not to be superstitious,’’ he said.
He believed that science should be used only for peaceful purposes.
Pandit Jawaharlal was a prime Minster of India. He was son of Motilal Nehru. He was a good an administrator. He was loved children very well. And his liking flower was red rose.
He was the one of the chief architects of panchasheel, the basis of India's foreign policy. He was against imperialism, colonialism and racialism and favor of non alignment and active neutrality. Jawaharlal Nehru wrote some very good books in English. Those books are discovery of India and Glimpses of world history which made him famous all over the world. His lost day was on the earth on 27th may 1964.
