Hello! I am Smita. I live with my family. My family is in Jammu. My full name is Smita sen.

My father, mother, big brother and little sister live with me. Everybody is a sen. It is our surname or family name.

We live in a very old house. It is by the River Tawi. My great grandfather built this Pucca house. It has stone walls.

Papa’s brother, sister and my cousins visit us often. Our grandparents live in America with my uncle. He is younger than Papa. I like it when they visit us.

We are a very loving and caring family. My big brother Soma helps me with school work. We both love our baby sister. She finds us funny.

In the mornings my brother and I go out in the garden. We look at the sun and the river. We close our eyes and thank God for happy family. Then we get ready to go to school.

On Sunday our family has good fun. We walk on the River bank. We pick up rubbish from the river side. Five bags of rubbish go into our dustbin. I am sure river says `thank you’ to us. Like this our beautiful river will stay clean. Fishes and birds will be happy.

On Sundays we visit my brother’s parents. They live on a farm. Visiting my uncles, aunts and cousins is like a picnic.

Families can have lots of fun together. They can go to weddings, cinemas, shopping and picnics. Sometimes they can go away for long holidays. There are birthdays to celebrate or a surprise party on Dad and Mom’s anniversary. Festivals too are good fun. We take pictures. The family can see the photo albums and remember the outings, parties and celebrations.

Our grandparents visited us in the summer season. Together, we went to Srinagar. We lived in a houseboat at the Dal Lake. It was great fun. Every morning Akbar, Nasir and their son Amer came in a small boat to sell flowers and fruits.

Madhu’s uncle is cooking yellow halva for every one. It smells good. In the afternoon Madhu will go to the park. He will fly his kite. Many children do that on Basant Banchmi.

My mother teaches in a play school. My father works in a bank. I am happy when they come home. We play carom, watch TV, and listen to music and red books. Sometimes we play in the park.
