One day, a greedy dog was walking in a market. The dog was very hungry. He was walking up and down the street. He was moving in search of food.

The dog then reached a meat shop. He peeped into the shop. He saw a big bone on the table. The bone was red in color. It had meat on it.

The hungry dog ran into the shop and took the bone. The butcher ran after him. But the dog escaped. After running for sometime, the dog stopped. He turned around to check if the butcher was following.

The butcher was not there. The dog was happy. He started walking ahead. Soon he reached a bridge. As the dog was crossing the bride, he looked down at the water. He saw another dog there. This dog in the water had a bone in his mouth. The greedy dog already had a bone. But he wanted to have the other dog’s bone too.

The greedy dog put his head near the water and began to growl angrily at him. He opened his mouth to bark and the bone in his mouth fell into the river now, the greedy dog had no bone. He was very sad.

We must never be greedy. If we become greedy we may lose whatever we have.

The race

It was the sports day in the forest. All the animals had come. Racing was the first event. The animals had to run on a racing track.

The track was very long. It went around the big gum trees, over the hill and the field. The hare and the tortoise had reached the last round.

The hare was sure that he would win. He thought that the tortoise was too slow. The tortoise believed in himself. He thought that he would try his best.

The race began. The hare began moving with speed. He hopped and hopped. The tortoise was moving too. His speed was much less.

Soon, the hare was far ahead of the tortoise. The hare looked back and said to himself, `How far ahead I am!’ the hare was pleased with himself.

The hare reached the top of the hill. The tortoise was still at the bottom of the hill. The hare saw a patch of soft green grass. The hare was feeling a bit tired now.

The tortoise was slowly moving up the hill. The hare thought that he had time for a rest. It was quiet there and the grass was soft.

The hare lie down on the grass and fell asleep.

The tortoise slowly reached the top of the hill. He was tired too. But he kept on moving. Soon the tortoise could see the finish line.

All the animals were standing there. The animals saw the tortoise coming alone. They began to cheer the tortoise. All the noise woke the hare up from his sound sleep. The hare began to run down the hill.

When the hare reached the finish line, he saw the tortoise standing there already. The hare was very upset. The hare could have won easily. But he had wasted his time. The tortoise was slow but he did not waste his time.

So, the tortoise won the race. We should not waste our time.
