Make uniforms look more attractive
Most of us at certain point of time in our lives have always come to a conclusion that school life has been the most memorable phase in our lives. However when we were in school there is one thing we hated the most and that is the school uniform. I recall the school in which we studied school children would be happy to come on Saturdays because that is the only day when children were permitted to wear clothes of their own choice and children used to give the impression that they were celebrating freedom on every Saturday.
Uniform and restrictions end with school life when children graduate to college wherein students are at liberty to wear dresses of their choice except in some colleges which still impose dress restrictions. However for many they get into a situation when they have to wear uniform all over again and that is when they start working after having graduated from college. While uniforms in lower grade staff are common all across the globe there are certain companies which make it mandatory for all grades of staff including officers to wear a uniform. With due respects to heads of companies and their senior management that while one cannot understand the logic behind employees and officials made to wear uniforms one thing is for sure that many do not like to uniform and the reasons for that are give below:-
1. Firstly most of the uniforms are plain and of a single colour. It is a very common sight to see men wearing shirts either coloured blue or green. Ladies too wear either green or blue saris.
2. Since the employees wear clothes of the same colour, they will be having maximum 2 or sets only as a result of which they will not be washing them everyday. That means most of them will be wearing sweat stained dresses every day.
3. Some employees wear uniforms which has lost its original colour. This is because of the fact that employees do not buy new sets of uniforms with the money allocated by their companies. As they know that there is no point in replacing same type of colour with a new one they prefer to wear the old one and make money by submitting false bills and due to this very reason some companies have made it a point that new clothes are purchased by them and hand over to the employee for stitching. Still there are employees who sell the new cloth and make money by selling them at a discounted price and producing a fake bill for tailoring expenses.
4. Some companies pay washing charges on a weekly or monthly basis to the employees. However many employees especially those who are not financially sound are known for treating washing charges as a means of savings and would wash clothes only after many days if it becomes too dirty or when they are instructed to do so. Sometimes employees wash only when their fellow colleagues or clients make fun of them.
While there may be valid reasons for companies to make their staff wear uniforms one should also admit that it is tough on the part of a employee to wear the same uniform. Apart from this clients also would feel sick seeing the employees wearing the same uniform day in and day out. Here are some suggestions which should help in inspiring a employee to wear a uniform.
1. The uniform can be made slightly more attractive by having at least some medium or thin stripes on it. These days even schools are having uniforms for their children with stripes. When schools can modify their rules for the better there is no reason why companies cannot follow suit. When it comes to their women employees companies should look at allowing at least some light designs on their sarees.
2. It is advisable to have uniforms of at least two colours which can be worn every alternate day or alternate week. It not only helps the employee in feeling better but it also makes clients feel better seeing a different set of colours in their subsequent visits.
All of us like to wear good clothes and see others wearing good clothes and companies keeping the interest of their employees and visitors should take up initiative in making uniforms slightly more attractive.
