Many times we believe in what people tell us. We do not try to find out the truth ourselves. I know it is true because it is written in the newspaper. I think it is true because some one told me.

I know it is true because all are saying so.

Is this a good reason to believe in something?

We sometimes believe in superstitions, because we never try to find our truth.

*Scientific attitude means, you should think, see for yourself and then believe.

Ram was very fond of watching movies. He used to go and watch any movie that was shown in the theater near their house. His mind was thus always full of thoughts of the movies and the stories that he read.

One day he saw a horror movie. The movie had all kinds of strange animals. Miles long snakes. Dinosaurs and many other such things were being shown. Many times Ram slipped to the edge of his seat out of fear.

After the movie his mind was still full of those strange animals that nearly jumped out of the screen at him. He had controlled his screams with some difficulty in the movie-hall. When he was returning home after the movie, his heart was still thumping. It was growing dark; he suddenly saw a snake on the road and jumped. He ran to a nearby street and again looked at the snake.

``Such a big snake,’’ he said, ``It is surely a cobra’’.

Then he saw an old man coming that way. The old man was going towards the snake.

Ram got still more scared. He thought perhaps the old man can’t see and soon he will step on the cobra and the snake will bite him…

So he started shouting.

``Don’t go that side. Come this way.’’

There is a snake there, a big cobra lying right across the road.’’

`What are you talking? There is no snake here. I have just gone from here,’’ said the old man and put his torch on.

``Come here,’’ he called Ram. ``Come and see. There is no snake here. It is just a rope lying on the road.’’

Ram came near the old man. He saw in the light of the torch. It was just a rope which he had thought to be a snake.
