France is secular in a way different from India. India believes in equal respect to all religions. Probably, France believes in equal disrespect to all.

Recently, a coach was asked to put off his turban. India External affairs ministry has taken up this matter with France.

If Indians want respect as perceived, they should not accept any undesirable demand. The Indian coach should have refused to put off burden and returned to India. when you yield to others' demands, you lose your case.

The official showed disrespect twice by asking to remove the turban twice...Perhaps they take perversive dellight in humiliating the Indians...
France has her own value system and procedure. But Indians should not accept what they want and refuse to abide. The coach should have returned and not accepted the demand to take off his turban. It is no use abiding by their direction and later complaining and making issue.
