This is nice link. I think people should read this before accepting or rejecting a promotion.

I have seen some bank employees refusing promotion. The reasons are (1) Salary increases but overtime allowance and bonus are discontinued. so total income is reduced. But this is shortsightedness and after getting promotion there are bigger increments and chances for further promotions. (2) On promotion, they are transferred to other cities. This is also because of too much home sickness.

I do not agree with some contents of the link. Everyone must aspire for higher rank in the industry ofr line he is in. Refusing promotion because he does not like the type of job and will settle some where else shortly are obviously not proper causes to refuse promotion.

The only circumstances when some body may refuse promotion is when the family circumstances do not warrant transfer to another place or he is on verge of retirement and promotion at such stage is not so apt. Those upto age of fifty years must never refuse promotion but accept the challenges attached to higher position.

My sister also refused her promotion. Because she is a teacher. Headmistress post she refused and she wish to be always as a teacher.

If I am a working women and my boss gives promotion but for that if he want me to send abroad I would refuse to take promotion.

Those are surely true facts.. If we can't handle the things after promoting, then better take more time.

some times total income may reduce immediately on promotion as certain benefits like overtime allowance, Bonus could be stopped. Also transfer to another place could be inconvenient. But this is short term. Ultimately, promotion benefits as line of promotion is like stair case. If you do not climb one stair, you will not climb the remaining stairs up and remain where you are. But if you are too old and are going to leave service shortly, it is okay to refuse promotion.

I also refuse promotion if I know I am not suitable for the given position. If I accept blindly I must loose many things.
