The President is the first citizen of India and like any oter citizen has a right to vote. But as head of state, he decided not to vote so as to maintain neutrality. He had arranged for postal ballot but ultimately chose not to vote. It is said that some earlier Presidents also had done so.

Before anything the presidential candidate should not have political party affiliations.to ensure President's neutrality, We all know that the President was a staunch congress man.
President is elected by members of parliament and state assemblies. Usually, he is from some political party. But on appointment as President, he becomes non party and acts independently according to constitutional provisions.

True. There was a criticism that, a president with political affiliations is likely to have partisan attitude despite the fact that he is supposed to be neutral. Ex President Sanjeeva reddy was blamed for non neutral attitude.

President's jobs are delicate. His role becomes very crucial when no party or alliance has majority. Even if the President acts according to his conscience and without undue favor to any party, he cannot avoid criticsm. You cannot please all. any one who is not satisfied will blame him. we saw this recently in elections also. Even if the election commission acted properly, anyone who was unsatisfied made allegation against the commission.

This is one thing that i must agree. That one cannot satisfy all is a truth., even if they perform with utmost sincerity.

Pranab Mukherji has been above reproach since the time he took office and definitely much more dignified that Pratibha Patil who was openly partial to Sonia Gandhi and Congress party ! Pranab Mukherji's decision is right and shows that he is neutral as far as his official position is concerned !

Pay no mind to those who talk behind your back, it simply means that you are two steps ahead !!!
