The UPA was weak and so the Maoists successfully operated in many states. But even now the Maoist demonstrate their strength despite emergence of 'strong'  NDA in center and some states.

The problem is deep rooted that will take time to get rid of. it's not the government alone but group of politicians, smugglers, criminals, officials all involved in the game. We must keep in mind Maoist exist only in the areas where minerals and forests are available plentiful. These are organized groups supported by international gangs which need to be busted in the wider interest of this country.

Maoists are stronger, because, they have sympathisers in certain pockets of the country especially Jharkhand . Another point is the government's policies failed to solve the problem, because the main cause is poverty and lack of job opportunities.

Not only Jharkhand but in Chattisgarh too, I have met some of them personally and they are not poor people but earn millions smuggling coal, minerals, Kaththa, wood, Tendu patta, uranium, and other costly forest products. Maoism is sort of camouflage keeping their activities behind the curtain.

They are smugglers in the guise of Maoists.

Maoists are a bigger threat to the Indian state than realized. The government will have to crush them for the sake of unity of India. The old Maoists are gone and the new breed are almost like dacoits, but the problem cannot be dealt politically as that stage is long passed. Just as the Chambal dacoits and Man Singh were wiped out by the Gurkhas, similar tactic will have to be employed, if the unity of India is to be preserved. Many will talk that this is wrong, but with nearly 500 policemen killed and no writ of the government in Maoist areas, a strong reaction is the need of the hour.

Please remember the Naxalites were similarly wiped out in Calcutta and Naxalbari in Bengal. I had met the senior officer who authorised 200 Maoist cadre to be shot dead in Calcutta in 1971.

Politicians as usual politicized the issue for their survival without eradicating the root of the problem. In AP earlier invited the Naxals  and most of them were rehabilitated. That's why AP successfully solved the problem of Naxalites. The present so called Naxalites or extremists are smugglers who want to create terror for their survival. The respective governments don't have the will to eradicate  because that's their way for survival.
