Microsoft unveils OS for education sector

Microsoft has recently launched its Windows Multipoint Server 2010 (WMS) operating system in the Indian market.

WMS is an operating system allows multiple stations to draw their processing power from single traditional desktop PC, while providing each student an independent monitor, keyboard and mouse.

The solution allows up to 10 stations to be connected to one traditional PC via a simple USB device called ‘Linksmart’.

It will reduce the operational costs of educational institutions.

HP, Microsoft’s global partner will provide WMS enabled system.

Microsoft believes that school labs, classrooms and libraries can greatly benefit from Shared Resource Computing.

Teachers has to manage only one computer instead of many.

Students can work on their projects independently at their own pace.

Schools can reduce hardware costs, increase number of students for computer access.

NAYAN Software to tackle cyber attack

Due to increasing number of cyber attacks on Indian companies inspired CDAC(Centre for Development of Advanced Computing ) to develop software to provide protection from such attacks.

CDAC has developed software -'NAYAN,' 'USB Pratirodh,' and 'Malware Resist'.

The software helps the administrator control access of a computer to network services and monitor activity from anywhere in the network.

NAYAN, short for Network Abhigham Niyanthran, controls the computer's access to different network services, thus protecting the internal network from threats and misuse.
