Drinking too much water too quickly can lead to water intoxication.

Water intoxication occurs when water dilutes the sodium level in the bloodstream known as hyponatremia and causes an imbalance of water in the brain.

2 Years back in Californiaa 28-year old lady and mother of three children died from drinking too much water. she took part in a water-drinking contest that was sponsored by a local radio show. Contest sponsors promised a free Wii video game machine to the contestant who drank the most water without urinating.

It is estimated that the woman who died drank approximately 2 gallons of water during the contest. After some time she and other contestants complained of discomfort. But promoters didn't pay attention. They made fun of the contestants and finally she died.

This is nice example to illustrate that excess of everything is bad. Water is good for body but too much is very harmful. It is pity that the poor lady died by taking too much water in the competition.

A village where NO DRINKING is followed

We can see a wine ship definitely almost in every street. But there is a village in tamilnadu where no body drinks there.Name of that village is Alavilampatti.It is in the Sivagangai district. There is a history behind why drinking is prohibited here.

During a war in karnataka several hundred years ago, many people vacated there and came to tamilnadu. When the people were nearing this village,there was heavy flood in the river and they could not cross it.At that time goddess Ponnnazhagi Amman appeared before them and she said " I will make a wooden bridge for you to cross the river.But you should not drink hereafter in this village". The villagers found that stone having this pledge some 50 years ago. From that time onwards nobody in this village drinks and even the guests coming here are also not allowed to drink.
