Already there is restriction on spending in elections and this is subject to audit.

The best way is to allow state funding through recognized political parties and not allow any expenses individually by a candidate. Only political party should spend and this should be audited by C&AG.

The amount that is used by the politicians in elections, they used to give full report of the money spent to the ta department. if they got that they are spending illegal money more than his income then they arrest them.

Valid question asked by surekha. But there is no answer. We can discuss only.

In Uttar Pradesh (I do not know about others states), political parties seek price (a sort of bribe) for party nomination to candidature for elections. Thus, a candidate begins his expenditure with huge price to political party.

It is necessary to control political parties first. If political parties are made to maintain integrity, honesty and transparency, candidates' activities will be checked without any further efforts. State funding of elections through political parties, strict audit thereof by C&G are requisites for controlling expenditure on elections.

If politicians were only law makers, there would be no difficulty. They not only make law, they also implement this and in the process get benefit for themselves.

if the money that was spent on elections was used for the development of our country we could stand first in developing our country.

A democratic system is costly. This is necessary expenditure. all that we need is to reduce this expenditure and other malpractices. One way to reduce election expenditure is to reduce the tiers of election.

Presently, we vote thrice- parliament, state assembly and local body like corporation or panchayat. we may consider that people vote only for local bodies. Thereafter election to state assembly will be by elected local body- municipal corporators and panchayat members. The MLA thus elected will vote for parliament. This will considerably reduce expenditure.
