Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Monday declared its first ‘Swarbhaskar’ award in memory of Pandit Bhimsen Joshi to noted singer Lata Mangeshkar. The award carries a prize of Rs1,11,161, a memento and citation.

The award will be given by eminent dancer Sitara Devi on February 12, the last day of the three-day music festival. On the first day of music festival, danseuse Shama Bhate will present Kathak fusion dance. Bhimsen Joshi’s son, Shriniwas Joshi will present classical vocal music.

All events will take place from 6pm to 10pm and would be open to the public for free. PMC has built a cultural complex and music library named after Bhimsen Joshi in Sahakarnagar. It would inaugurated on February 10 at 9.30am by chief minister Prithviraj Chavan.
