The interlinking of the Godavari and the Krishna has been on the anvil for almost five decades.

The benefits of interlinking of rivers are many. Farmers can harvest crops all along the year. Chandrababu Naidu made seemingly impossible task a reality.

Farmers are happy. Food problem is solved forever. More importantly Farmer suicides will not be there.

Yes, Interlinking of rivers have many benifits, like our former PM Atalbihar has done for interlinking roads, our current PM should do to interlink rivers.

No doubt Bajpayee envisaged interlinking of rivers. Unfortunately he could not succeed. Now Narendra Modi should see that interlinking of rivers is done in order to avoid famines.

It is a good initiative taken by Chandra Babu Naidu which will be beneficial for agriculturists of the present and future generations. There is one called Yettina hole project that has been in the planning stages since almost a decade here in Karnataka in the western Ghats. Linking of Netravathi river which takes its birth in the western Ghats and flows down to South Kanara district and joins Arabian Sea at Mangalore. But there is stiff opposition to this project by almost everyone in the district .The reason being that , they plan to build a series of canals on the top of the ghats and divert the water to other areas , which means after monsoons, there will not be hardly any water flowing down and Netravati is the bloodline for the entire district of South Kanara...I feel that they need to consider all the factors before jumping in for such schemes which should benefit all ,not make matters worse for people !

Pay no mind to those who talk behind your back, it simply means that you are two steps ahead !!!

With  the famine conditions increasing day by day, Chandrababu had to take this decision. Now with this two districts are getting abundant water, which were famine pro until a few days ago.

The interlinking of rivers is a dream dreamt by many even before independence. The problem is when people tend to give entire credit to the person during whose tenure te project gets completed. Could such big canal have been conceived, dug and implemented in the one year rule of Chandrababu? Let us give credit to all during whose such projects got conceived and executed. It will reduce the bitterness in our society. I am also very happy that Godavari and Krishna rivers have been connected. So much water is available in Indian rivers and such interconnections are very necessary and a way out to combat famine and arrest unfortunate suicides by hapless farmers.

Inter linking of Godavari and Krishna already completed. Of course other proposals to link the rivers in the state are in progress. Both Srikakulam and some districts are the beneficiaries, which were prone to Famines.

The idea of interlinking different rivers took shape in 2005 by NWDA ( National Water Development Agency). The first river linking was done in Madhya Pradesh between Narmada and Ksipra which was completed in 14 months time and was inagurated in 2014.

But the river linking was thought of by the British in the 19th century mainly for the purpose of transportation of goods.

Later the matter did come up in 1980 and 1999 but took a concrete shape in 2005 on paper. There are more than half a dozen projects waiting for approval.

Thanks for the updates. In AP river linking for the first time took place.

I am speaking from memory and am subject to correction. The great engineer M Vishvesvaraaya (pardo spelling if wrong) had also advocated river linkages and perhaps K L Rao a technocrat Minister in the sixties also had done so. One of the constraints was the huge funds required then but today fiscal liquidity is much better.

You are right. You have a strong memory. You remember those great personalities who had thought about linking rivers.

Of course name of  Viswesarayya has many variations. you need not worry about your spelling.
