True ! Once you decide to become a monk you have to abide by the rules....But human nature is such that, people do get tempted and want to have a fling once in a while like the monks did

If they are able to control their emotions they should not have become a monk.

Be it Buddhism or Hinduism simplicity with minimum possessions is the prime factor in the life of a mendicant's life. You should see Satyasai baba's Ashram.

The Buddhist monks live on 'Bhiksha'. (donation). That is why they are called 'Bhikhuk (monk). A Buddhist monk does no believe in simplicity. He believes only in living on what others offer. So, if the 'bhiksha' is luxurious enough, he will live in luxury. He does not believe in veg or non veg food. He will accept what you give him to eat.

Have you heard of Po Lin the richest monastery anywhere in the world! It's in Hong Kong and then Dalai Lama who spent half his life traveling all over the world.

Religion itself is a very thriving business and these days all religious leaders believe in surrounding themselves with luxurious things and living it up....So, Buddhist monks cannot be singled out...
