I'm here sharing my experience at Saarang - the festival of IIT madras on the basis of Saarang 2009

Saarang is the biggest and the best fest in southern india. The budget of saarang 2009 was close to 1.15 crores ( yes, even i have difficulty in counting the number of 0's) which gives you a prime idea of what the fest would be like.I am not going to go into the factual details of the fest.I will elucidate the experience though.

Saarang is a yearly festival and it has a characteristic nature of reducing routine festiavl winners to nothingness.

The events are highly and when i say highly,I mean highly in every sense of the word competitive.Literary events are beyond the scope of this review as the range of topics covered and the quality of language used is seldom surpassed by professional writers let alone amateur college students.Usually attemptable literary events such as crossword, wtgw[whats the good word],creative writing and poetry writing are mystically elusive.

Oratory events viz debate, jam, elocution, extempore and block and tackle etc are of high quality but i beleive that its the style which takes them to the winners podium more than innate ability. So if one were to closely analyse, understand, prepare and then compete with them next time around there may be a small chance of making it to the podium.

Then of course are the theatre events like drama, sreet play, mono act which too are well adapted to suit the wavelength of the audience.IIT is very serious about its drama and they are very good at winning it every time.

The mega events like dance, rock show etc are professional in every sense of the word and hours, days, weeks, months or even years of toil is evident in the perfectly synchronous lucid dance steps or the extremely tight playing bands from all over india.

Needless to say the IIT Madras people won most of the events and people don't usually have much to complain about the judges because they are head and shoulders above the rest of the crowd, but the point is and take my word for it,they are beatable. They have a style , a set pattern for themselves,if you were to look, understand and differ from them in some way or another while competing you have a chance of winning.

'What is man but when devoid of his dreams?'

The only negative part about it is overcommercialisation to the extent of ticketing of events like dance and fashion show. Also night life is a kind of boring because campus is too widespread, not very homely and you have to walk a lot to get from one place to another.

I could go on and on about IIT,it would never end but just this one line :

Go to Saarang as early as possible in your engineering carrer, participate in as many events as possible.LEARN
