While agreeing for all the points pertaining to the benefits of internet, here I would like to add the legal aspect involved.

The Apex court strongly felt, Banning Internet, including porn amounts to suppressing the Freedom of expression. Combining these two aspects, yes internet cannot be stopped.

From the apex cout decision it appears that watching porn at home or at isolated place is okay but not in a cyber cafe. I remember that some time back agra police arrested people in cyber cafe for watching porn.

Yes sir. Police arrested the people because Cyber cafe is not a private place. And another aspect in Cyber cafes are people watch porn in groups just by paying the cyber cafe charges. In my place not only the people watching porn, but the owner of the cyber cafe were also arrested.

At Agra also the managersof the cyber cafe were arrested. The watchers were also arrested.  Just as you can't watch porn in cinema hall, you can't do in cybercafe as well.

The very definition of Public and Private clearly says the difference between Public and Private place, Except Home all other places are public places.

People will watch and read what they like unless you finish them all. People will drink and smoke unless you stop the production. What is the need of telling what they should do if the people know what is good or bad for them? AND What is the need for telling people what they do, eat or watch if they do not know what is good or bad for them! Either way, you're wasting your time, after all we live in a democracy. It will be worth mentioning here that even China did not succeed stopping people watching things that were not in Chinese interest.

I agree. If people are so aware about what they should read and what they  should watch, well it need not be sermoned. Unfortunately it's not happening so. How do you account for Cyber crimes ?

I agree with both Ram Baboo and Sunil that in a democracy people are the best judge of what is good for them.  In fact govt. is supposed to manage the affairs of state for the people and not act as a guide to them.  Then what is crime?  Ram Baboo refers to Cyber crime.  As porn is not acceptable to most people at least openly, they are disgusted. People are not accvustomed to kissing and hugging in public. So government has to take in account what the overwhelming majority want.  In view of current cultural and social environment, prorn cannot be allowed publicly. Crime is of two types- against whole society or government.  Secondly against other cirizens viz. causing injury, insult to some body.  Cyber crime may be against another indvidual e.g. sending some vulgar image to another person.  This may be against whole society e.g. diusplaying porn in a public place including cyber cafe.

Cyber crimes are happening due to unawareness in the people what's good or bad. Or crime against the society or otherwise. It is this situation that warranted for intervention of Judiciary. And it is for the same reason Apex court clearly mentioned, "Viewing porn in privacy of the individual is no crime.".

There is a difference in between cyber bullying and cyber crimes. Cyber crimes are for the sake of money and bullying is as we all know, it gives a mischievous satisfaction to some.

The basic problem is that our society is still very backward and not evolved enough to handle issues concerning sex...If you take it in your stride there will be no need for a discussion on sexual matters.I find this prudishness very musing given the fact that we are one of the fastest growing population in the world and yet shy away when it comes to matters relating to sex..I guess it is the usual double standard and unable to accept facts which needs to be kept under cover ..

Pay no mind to those who talk behind your back, it simply means that you are two steps ahead !!!

Without an iota of doubt it's a classic case of dual standards which are inherent in us

Porn Is difficult to ban. The Muslim  nations tried but failed. As It stands as per google out of top 10 nations watching porn on net 7 are Islamic.

Leaving aside other countries, the Apex court Chief justice H. L Dattu said banning porn is violation of freedom of expression. Seeing porn privately however is not an offense.
