I think Hindi films have done a lot better than any government policy to popularise Hindi. What is more remarkable is that Bollywood has successfully promoted a Pan-India culture by assimililating the best talents from all over the country. What do you think?

Yes I agree, Bollywood has successfully promoted not only movies in Hindi but have helped spread this language as well. Hindi is not known better as national language but due to movies that has made it somewhat popular all over the world.

Yes, of course. I have learned Hindi only through Bollywood movies and its songs have really influenced me a lot and prompted me to love this language and its films.
Actually, we have to study Hindi from 5th standard itself. But, only a few people in Kerala can understand or speak Hindi. Don't think that all people in Kerala are like me, who understands Hindi and Bollywood. Truth is only below 10%.

Yes you are right and that too in big cities. In smaller places we do not know how to communicate.

Actually, in Kerala people watching Hindi movies from theatre are very rare. But youngsters promote Bollywood movies a lot. Also, Hindi movies are released in small theatres.
When I speak in Hindi (though not fluent) to some Hindi people, people ask me frequently, if I was in North India.
When I say, I learnt only through Hindi at school and Hindi movies, many people find it difficult to digest, because.....very few people can understand Hindi here, though they have studied this language till 10th or 12th.

I know this as I am a frequent visitor to your state. I have seen almost all big cities and small towns. There is not much problem in Muslim areas as they know to speak Hindi in URDU form. But that sounds totally different from Urdu or Hindi.

The Bollywood Hindi is unique. There is distinct Bombay affect on Filmi Hindi. For example, Bottle is 'batli'. 'Apun' for 'I' (Main in standard Hindi), Taripar for banishment from city. There is no doubt that spoken Hindi would not be so popular but for Bollywood contribution. Bollywood also is to be admired for using Roman alphabets in showing cast and advertisements. Hindi will be popularized more if Roman alphabet is used for communication in Hindi. I feel that Roman alphabet should be universally used for all languages.

That is why I favor using Roman alphabets and numbers for all languages. If Roman alphabets and numbers are used for Hindi (and also other languages), all will understand better.

You shall be surprised to know that they are so similar to English pronunciation, the Hindi numbers, example
Nine is Nou
Eight is Aath
Four is Char
Six is chai
Three is teen or tray
two is 'do' sounds though
