Everything wrote in headings are result of stealthness of last decades by GOI. Slowly Modi is started moving and breaking ice. Thread starter forgot to mention about Bangladesh where border pacts sealed now, there are many winnings front in foreign relations with this government and in years more postive results would come out and thread starter should wait for five years to end to make an ultimate opinion. China pak relations are olders and they continue to do so nothing to worry about it.

Yes, Bangladesh can be termed a limited success, but if Begum Zia comes to power, the old frosty relation may come back. In contrast Sheikh Hasina is a friend. Her children studied at Modern school, Delhi.

The internal politics of Bangladesh cannot be helped but from our side we have reached out and hopefully the momentum gets carried forward especially given the fact that we have quite a few immigration, terrorism and other problems with Bangla desh, but not as severe as it is with Pakistan !

Pay no mind to those who talk behind your back, it simply means that you are two steps ahead !!!

@Usha

The history of Indo-Bangla relationship clearly shows whenever an Awami  League government has been in power it has been fairly less turbulent and less intractable irrespective of any party government in India. So I won't credit Modi government with any thing extra. In fact Modi has been blessed with some favorable conditions in management of the economy like slump in oil prices with its consequent impact on lower inflation. His more than a year's rule has not been extraordinary in terms of economic advancement or any thing original. The main

I agree with most of what you say but still would give credit to Modi for the efforts he is putting in towards cultivating positive relationships with the neighboring countries and elsewhere in the world where it would be mutually beneficial

Modi has yet to take a initiative that can be said to be his own So far it is old wine in new bottle and repackaging of existing schemes. Nothing wrong. But the hype he created during elections raised hopes in a class of voters in MP,Rajasthan, Gujarat, Jharkhand and Maharashtra to vote almost enbloc resulting him getting 30% votes on an all India basis. Every action of his gets compared with the hype and the differences come out glaringly. The recent agreement with Pakistan at Ufa and the resultant cross border firings resulting in civilian deaths clearly shows that he is either not knowing o ris poorly advised regarding the power reality in Pakistan. Also the non action and non comments on his part in the Sushma-Vasundhra- Pankaja-Chauhan scams or misdeeds also shows him to be compromising with his own stated lofty principles. Nearly 25% of his term is over and we are still waiting for the election mode Modi to emerge and take the country forward to the promised utopia.I wish him well in his efforts.

@Usha

Scope for honest disagreement should always be desirably there and we may not be on the same page on all issues. Being a keen observer of politics I have noted several shortcomings in Modi's personality and the worst and most dangerous for the country is his penchant to lead a larger than life existence and nursing dictatorial ambititons and Advani's fear of another emergency may have been prompted by Modi's style which is also the reason behind his choosing a mediocre and faceless team. I am aware that a year is just not enough

@chinmoy. Much of what you have written is true, but you missed the main point that China respects only military might. Remember China would have invaded Formosa long ago but for the US 7th fleet anchored inbetween.  China has also deep pockets of finance and a global outlook. Their submarines are patrolling the Indian ocean and docking facilities given in Burma, Ceylon and Pakistan.

In contrast the concept of military power as an instrument has not dawned on Indian leadership from Nehru to yes Modi. Militarily its important to match China , only then we can move forward. As things stand we are unable to even deal with terrorism from Pak for 25 years in Kashmir.

Well said, Modi has done nothing special.  He has not followed up his promises made. I wonder he realises the deep effect on morale on the army with non approval of OROP. Can it happen in any other country? I hope he pulls up his socks and delivers.

OROP has turned into a game of Passing the Buck. Previous governments show its accusing accusing fingers towards the Present government and the present to the previous government at the cost of those Heroes who always stood as the sentinels to this country.

Both the JAWAN and KISAN were left to their fate..It's a foolish act on the part of the respective Governments which is going to be costly if this goes on.
