The votaries of religion often boast about loss of moral value because of decay of religion. They often stress on need for religious education for increasing morality in society.

But rape of a minor girl by a tantrik (a religious practitioner) speaks volume about the moral standard that religion may bring about.

Religion was never a beautiful blonde to me. I keep it at bay.

Are we talking about beauty and blonde or ugly and black. Religion has nothing to do, associated with bad, violent and ugly. There are many tribes in India who worship before going for their criminal activities, it does not mean the religion allows them to commit crimes in its name. Religion is personal belief and people criticise it for the sake of fashion. When something hurts them, they straight away run to the nearest temple. Cheers

The very fact that many will go to worship before doing any evil act goes to present ugly face of religion. Good or evil is 'personal', and worship is also 'personal' Thus the deity you worship is neutral between good and evil. Thus definitely religion teaches neither good nor bad. However, it can not be denied that certain acts like tantrik, Kapaal Sadhana and so on performed by some sort of sages (Aghori) are evil and dark and so evil side of religion.

Tantrik has nothing to do with religion, if a fake doctor (Jholachap) rapes a girl, that does not mean we should challenge the value of medicine or its practice. These are two different matters and fakes are there in every field of life.

A jholachhhap is a fake doctor but a tantrik is not fake religious person. Tantrik practice consists of murderous sacrifice, , drinking blood, rape and all dark practices. This is an ugly aspect of religion .

Tantrik is not a religious person as he practices darker side of tantra related to black magic, that is not religious by any angle, my two dime opinion.

Tantra or tantrik is part of Hindu scriptures and so is religion- may be dark side. This is indeed ugly side of religion.

One has to accept that it's the darker side - a side that not many would advocate. But that exists.

It will still exist even if you take the religious part out of it. I do not see any religion connection with Tantra mantra as it is present in jungles of Africa with the name of Woodoo.

Religion may have evoloved as an institution to regularise human behavior but it has its own drawbacks...We get to hear many immoral acts done by the so called god fearing and very religious people. When illiteracy gets added on to irrational thinking such perversities take place ! The tantrik too belongs to rthe very same society of people and one cannot really expect anything much from him...

I have expressed myself elsewhere that religion as is perceived by the majority is not in the interest of civilization as historical records and evidences so I have don't have any faith in established religions. These completely blind us and blunt the very urge to launch a self-inquiry for truth and whatever rests on it.

I agree, I myself have different style of trust in religion but here we are talking about tantra and its connection with religion. I don't see any especially the ones using tantra for their personal gain without knowing anything about it.

True, the established religions are more about conducting rituals that do not serve in manner in the quest for self-inquiry or for truth, but they are designed more suited as a means for earning money and instilling fear in the name of God!

It is more to do with control and power rather than guiding and enlightening people, which is what was the function of religion and religious leaders was supposed to be - Now it is all pomp and show, empty vessels making noise !

Pay no mind to those who talk behind your back, it simply means that you are two steps ahead !!!

The ugly face of religion again came to fore. Mob killed a man and danced near temple as a part of religious ritual.

This is really sad as people at this age too believe on such things and believe these to be the part of religion. Its really pathetic that in cities like Delhi too such cases are very common. May be its education which can change mentality of people.
Not education but scientific education can change mentality. Many educated are very superstitious and believe in Tantrik type of religion.
