A similar system exists known as Devadasi system in South India. In this system a girl before attaining puberty will be married to a deity or a temple. And after the marriage the girl is destined to become a prostitute for the upper caste community. Though the system was declared as illegal, the system continues, though in a smaller scale.

I know this tribe originates fro Dhoulpur area of Raj which is closed to Agra. But this tribe is not limited to Agra but scattered all over the places. People who know about this tribe go to visit areas of this tribe as they are welcome there and stay in their homes.

They are nomads. They shift from place to place in search of customers especially by the sides of Highways catering to the needs of truck drivers.

The Bedia tribe is not willing to avoid prostitution . They say that they are proud of their family tradition of prostitution .

A member of the Bedia tribe, who was herself a prostitute, says lack of education, extreme poverty and unemployment has forced her people into the flesh trade. The lure of easy money prevents them from living a normal life.

Most of them think it is easier to earn money, than to engage in jobs and read. Mind set needs to be changed, they have to come out from middle age mindset, life is beautiful much beyond this.

Their point of view is a married life is drudgery and slavery. In the link provided a prostitute who's doing a brisk business says that she's earning bread to a family of 9 members. She's right in her own way.
