Philosophy is also a part of our life. The way we look at things and our mental attitude constitute philosophy. The attitudes like optimism, pessimism, attitude towards society and others, work, material comforts- all these are philosophy and affect our life. Even if you do not study philosophy as a subject, this is part of your life. In fact, this is also true about Economics, literature, history, which are all part of our life.

Action without contemplation can lead us to nowhere! Similarly only contemplation without action produces the same results!
Gulshan and Chinmoy have very nicely explained about philosophy! I just want to add that there are a majority of people who cannot be bothered to think or talk about deeper issues of life, while there are those who need to study philosophy. So we cannot say that its a time wasting thing!

I don't care much for philosophy... but we should all follow the revealed law of God...
Philosophy is required in every bodies life.It is necessary to learn about own life.
