In Tulu , which is my mother tongue , we say Onthe ( little ) Neer ( water) korule ( give).....

 

There are lot of similarities  between Tulu and Telugu. In fact, linguists say, Telugu was born from Tulu. We say Neeru for water. My old colleague , Manohar Desai , a kannadiga and whose mother tongue was Tulu used to say jocularly that Telugu was born from the trash basket of Tulu. 

 

Neer is a Sanskrit word therefore common in many Indian languages. In fact during my stay in Andhra a friend of mine used to say Telugu has half its words fro Sanskrit so not hard to learn.

 

True. Yes. you were in AP. What you observed is true. Telugu has many  Sanskrit words. In fact almost all the languages evolved from Sanskrit.
