Yes Sir, and Madam.  We positively need to reform the whole thing, and even some behavioral training and counseling by professionals might be another solution.  This has been tried out for auto drivers and bus drivers and conductors in Chennai, and reportedly, there were better results.

For strict enforcement of the laws, the taxi operators should also co-operate.

We also have another horrible tribe -- the private omni bus operators, many of whom are not properly authorized.  When the bus breaks down, it becomes a huge problem for lady passengers and the guys are often very impertinent.

The Government should have a proper local control authority for this mode of transport also.

It is only when the incident takes place, we get to know about the criminal record of the concerned convict, why can't this procedure be done before recruiting them as drivers. State Govt. have to gear up proper control and adequate measure to bring all taxi and auto and bus services at par with proper security failing which their licenses should be taken away.

Police verification should be mandatory before employing somebody as a driver. But this is also not loolproof. There may be nothing adverse against a driver in police record. Usually police verification is mere formality enabling pliceman to get some extra money. Besides, even a man who is clean now can commit rape at some time. .

There is no alternative to vigilance. Unless a woman is accompanied by some one and avoids traveling alone with a stranger- even if he is cab driver, she is not safe.

There are many instances where male passengers are robbed by taxi drivers esp. in night journeys from airports. So male or female, a criminal minded taci driver can cause harm equally. Use of technology with proper regulation and sincere verification can go a long way to reduce such happenings. I haves seen female taxi drivers in Germany driving long distance taxis and in constant touch with their base office and active GPS. We do not allow the system to work and then when incidents occur make knee jerions. What are the AP and Telengana police going to achieve by sudden checking for a few days and then forget it till another horrible incident takes place. Our bureaucracy is far too protected and unresponsive. They have to be woken up. We always end up blaming the politicians and the police. what about the vast and inefficient IAS led babudom. They make policies and are supposed to implement them.

Banning a taxi company is no solution at all...They shd make sure that the taxi companies follow certain norms so that safety of the passengers is not compromised. If they begin banning taxi companies we may not be left with many since almost all of them will have at least a few drivers with a deviant bent of mind..

Pay no mind to those who talk behind your back, it simply means that you are two steps ahead !!!

Banning the company will not give any positive result. Before issuing the driving licence the rto is not verifying the person details much. When i was appreared for two wheeler licence test another one person with me also applied for the license for the two wheeler without gear and he bring tvs 50 for the test drive. RTO gives him motorcycle with gear licence. If licences are given like this the person who don't know much about the car driving can also become a cab or taxi driver. Most individual persons making call to the taxi company and taxi companies providing the vehicles which are not owned by them but simply putting the label on the taxi and they are sending the taxi to the concerned person who made the call. If you close a company then they will start with another name and run their service some where else in the country. Banning is a temporary solution.
