Thanks Kalyani and Gulshan for your views! In India how many left parties are there! I lose count! But all they subscribe to leftist ideology and have their own outfits and followers!
Chinmoy- I don not follow the link between this thread and the leftist parties. There are many right wing and middle of the road parties also having same features. Quite often, the tag of left or right is given by media. Also, many parties are there to cater to personal whims and fancies of certain leaders. It is also in vogue to consider the parties allying with CPM as leftist. When the same party joins hands with BJP, this is no more left. For example, George Fernandez, a socialist was considered left. But his status changed when he allied with BJP.

Gulshan, this topic was raised just to give an example fo the absurdities in our governing system!

The views you explained further elaborates the absurd conditions under which our ruling and opposition parties function!

I am not going into the history of how all the progressive and forward-looking ideas can to be associated with tag "Leftism" but the tenor of my argument was to expose the inner contradictions among the lefitist parties under which there many outfits which owed allegiance to parties outside the borders of the country. Our two main Communist parties were divided in their allegiance to former USSR and China. Now they even talk in favor of Swadeshi. That is th absurdity I am talking about!

I agree. The seeming absurdities often result from vote bank politics. All parties, Congress, BJP, Left and regional have certain vote banks- real or imaginary. They take absurd stands even against logic to satisfy their vote bank. I remember one case. Once Mulayam singh, U.P. Chief Minister even supported mass copying and other wrong practices in exam apparently to satisfy the students, whom he considered vote bank.

Thanks Chinmoy for explaining your viewpoint. The main topic is that every absurdity has some champion. This is indeed true. All parties including left indulge in vote bank politics that often compels them to take absurd stand.
