We call the empires Asoka and Akbar as great - Asoka , the great and Akbar , the great. Why? They preached secular ways.Akbar banned the controversial tax named Jaziya and also conducted inter religious dialogues.Akbar also put forward a religion called Din Ilahi.Asokas edicts were lights to secular life.

But what their followers now here did?We completely turned it upside down and began to explain in our own ways. Thus it was spoiled by our own hands.

Gulshan "you said <b>why cannot we mix religion with politics"

This dangerous mix of religion with politics by the BJP has already created sufficient atmosphere/ground for creating terrorists. The main allegation of the Congress against the BJP is that the latter is mixing politics with religion.

Due to which hindu versus muslim war scene is created & you can daily see news of violence in india

I said that secularism implies that religion must not be mixed with politics or public life. BJP violates the concept of secularism brazenly and even misinterprets this. However, others also attempt to impress voters by going to temple or other religions places for influencing voters.

By bringing religion, caste or any such narrow concept, the real interests of people are diluted. People are thus cheated. Secularism is being distorted to mean as fooling all religious communities similarly. This is blatant misuse and distortion of the concept of secularism.

Before getting independence India was the garden of all religions. But unfortunately the "divide and rule" policy of Britishers worked and India divided into two.The Pakistan was for Muslims and Hindusthan for Hindus was the slogan then.

But INC like political parties tried to realise that India is not only for Hindus but for all Indians. This was their secular way. Thus people were religious but India was secular politically. This two stands was the root cause of all the problems we faced after including the mixing of religion and politics.

There is no contradiction between personal religious rituals and belief and national secularist policy. So, any one may be religious and also be secular. Religion is a personal matter. If you do not mix it up with politics, you are secular. Religion is as personal matter as your family affairs. You love your spouse and children but this has nothing to do with politics. Same about religion.

In personal life this may be true. But the mob psychology is different. They think that those who are not beleiving in any religion are secular!

Secularism means equal respect for all religions and cultures. It also offers non-interference of religion in the government affairs. The Indian Constitution says that no discrimination will be made on the basis of caste, creed, gender and class.

The Article 25 of Indian Constitution offers that all those who reside in India are free to confess, practice and propagate religion of one’s choice subject of course to social health and law and order. So even migration to any religion of ones choice is a fundamental right. But the political parties like BJP and its sister concern RSS are opposed to all this. They demand Hindu Nation in India and Muslims and Sikhs should be only secondary citizens without any political right.

So all secular minds in India consider the BJP as a communal party. They accuses INC of ‘appeasement’ of minorities. It also describes the Congress and other secular parties as indulging in ‘pseudo-secularism’. This scene really confuses the Indian voters which is the real way of misusing secularism.

BJP is no doubt a communal and fascist organization. The dictionary meaning of 'secular' also means one who is not religious. However, according to constitution, government or state is 'secular'. Individuals are not secular. Hence as an Individual, I am a Hindu and belong to this community. Some one else is Muslim and belong to that community. There is nothing secular about individuals. But the same individuals when performing public function are supposed to be secular. In performing public duty, you have nothing to do with religion. This is the concept of secularism. Any one acting otherwise and proclaiming secularism is cheating people and misusing the concept.

So the GD time is ending.I am concluding my discussion here.

Topic: Do you think that "Secularism has become a tool to justify the wrongs?"

1)Secularism means equal respect for all religions and cultures.

2) The Article 25 of Indian Constitution offers that all those who reside in India are free to confess, practice and propagate religion of one’s choice

3) Indian people were religious but India was secular politically

4) Political parties accuse each other as communal

5) Hence many wrong deeds are justified in the name of secularism.

OK, Friends thanks to all for making this GD a lively one. With this my posts in January is also ending.Happy February to all.
