It is fashionable to make modern or western culture whipping boy for our ills. Rape is not western but Indian disorder. So many rapes are committed in villages on Dalit women by the upper caste dominants. Isthis western influence?

Rape is not new to India. Even our sacred Mythologies are replete with Rapes of all kinds and colours.

There are many kinds of marriages in India. One kind of marriage is 'Rakshas Vivah' which means forcibly kidnapping a woman and raping her. Hence rape is definitely 'Indian'. Actually west has more reason to be afraid of 'Indian culture'.

Gulshan ji i had studied in a book that in one of the village they will kidnap the girl and marry this is their culture. Still it is continuing.

Yes. This is 'rakshas vivah'. There is no issue if this is acceptable in community. It is also possible that in such cases, kidnap and marriage is dramatic and not real. In some communities, first haircut of a child is got done by maternal uncle stealthily. This is also customary and dramatic. When a girl is kidnapped and sex forced only as a custom, this is not rape in the sense understood by us as everyone including the girl accepts this.

Society should play a key role in stopping atrocities on woman. We cannot fully depend on law enforcement system.

I am sure I am living in a female dominated world where women is the supreme deciding factor. I am also sure that women are main force behind all suffering of women because if they do not support whatever is going on in this society was not possible. let the women decide what is good for them and what is not.

Yes it's being done only yesterday, when a Roadside Romeo tried to stalk a college going girl in a city in AP, the wayfarers took the initiative and beaten the Romeo blue and black and handed overt to the police.

If we dont analyse what is wrong in our culture and try to set it right, how can there be any positive change.There are far too many things wrong within our culture and we cannot pretend that it does not exist since some of them are glaring and need to be changed in the best interest of all concerned !

Pay no mind to those who talk behind your back, it simply means that you are two steps ahead !!!

The main drawback is we are by nature Hypocrites. We all know the loopholes in our culture. Still we pretend that our culture is invaded by foreign cultures.

True! There are far more things that are wrong within our culture than we blame western influence for! This Sunday there was an article by a foreign writer based in New Delhi in the Sunday Times, she had met with several foreign women travelers and written about how these women were stared at, ogled at lecherously, even pinched and groped by Indian men at several prominent and hi-profile tourist places. While they were not actually raped but the kind of humiliating behavior they were subjected to is indeed shaming for all Indians. And all this while we keep declaring ourselves as belonging to a great and fantastic culture in all the world. I wonder what is so fantastic about our culture when our own as well as other women feel unsafe and uncomfortable all the time?

Yes beat mercilessly but do not kill him. Just tie him, remove his clothes and those present and passers by may beat him with a stick.
