World Food Day is observed all over the world on October 16. It's objective is to eradicate Hunger by spreading awareness among the people.

But with the rampant abuse of environment for the sake of Development, rainfall has become scarce. Groundwater levels are depleting. All these factors are to pondered before we think of eradicating Hunger.

It applies to India too. Due to reduced rainfall, it has become a herculean task for a farmer to grow his crops. For this reason farmers are forced to resort to chemical based agriculture. The chemical used for farming are ridden with toxins, which further lead to poisoning the food.  The traders started using artificial colors to the vegetables and artificial ways to ripen the fruits.

As far as I'm concerned, I'm aware that I'm eating poison, not food. But I don't have any option. Some consolation for me is, I eat more pulses. and I eat only home food.

Not only we eating poison, we are drinking poison, we are breathing poison. We have not any option. Pulses are also not free from poison. You can cook food at home you can't grow these at home. The best solution of it is use these with care. Use old grains and try to grow some vegetable at home. Filter water properly.

I agree. We don't have any option. Even old grains also not easily available except in faraway village  fairs. In these fast paced life, it is not possible. But as you said, one should exercise utmost care in using these foods. That is the only option left to us.

Always purchase whole grains and store them for one year. In this way you will get old grains. Sock pluses at least 6 hours and that use these.

Purchasing whole grains and storing them for one year is thing about which i had no idea.. Of course soaking the pulses 6 hours before use, is what we too do  here,

Here purchasing grain for whole year is very common. Wheat is our principal grain. Mix 20Ml. cow urine in water and soak vegetable and fruits in it for 10 minutes, yours vegetable and fruit will free from harmful insecticides.

Purchasing

Grains in large quantities, here is not possible. Because of space constrints. Here in AP our main necessity is rice. At the most we can buy rice for one month. And the rice that is available is devoid of outer skin. People want attractive  rice. Hence we are losing the real nutritional value of rice. Thanks to modern fast paced life.

Happily, owingto green revolution, we are self dependent in food grains for last so many years> Once we hhad to import foodgrains.  It is a matter of regreat that owing to bad conditions, the food growers are compelled to commit suicide in many places.  There is need to foucuss only on two things-  Food and defence. Jai Jawan Jai Kissan- a slogan coined by Late P.M. Lal Bahadur Shastri is valid even today.

Is the slogan " Jai Jawan  Jai Kisan coined by late Lal Bahadur Shastri Ji followed strictly and religiously ? Had it been followed, how we can account for Farmers deaths which are increasing by day ? It is obvious, there is no strict adherence to the slogan. Additionally, environment abuse in a large scale for the sake of development is affecting rain fall. All these are contributing to the farmers deaths. Another truth is that there are no sincere efforts to follow the great leader Shastri ji's Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan.

India has made tremendous advances in agricultural sector and is fully providing foodgrains to the ever increasing population. But members seem to be only concentrating on few negative aspects. Yes the suicide by farmers is a sad happening but is limited to a few states only because of other social conditions also. Farming is after all a high risk business venture and unfortunately some lose out. Need is to move small and marginal farmers to industrial jobs fora livelihood.

Farmer suicides are not Just restricted to a few states. They are happening in many states like Maharashtra, AP. Though the farmer suicides are less compared to Maharashtra and AP. But the reality is India is basically An Agriculture based country Farmers who give the country food, are being neglected.

I agree with you that it is not the people who are concerned. Press is the most concerned one. The media must have a code of ethics for reporting suicides, especially Farmer suicides.

India is no longer an agriculture based country economy wise. Nearly 86 % of GDP is generated by non agriculture activities by 40% population and only 16% GDP by 60% population. That should tell the real story.
