A general ban on a dress and dress code or uniform at work place differ. A public office must maintain decorum. Jeans and sports shoes and some other items are casual dress not suiting an office. But I don't understand why Dhoti Kurta for gents is not an approved dress in office.

Not only government some private company also banned jeans and T shirts in office, In offices all males and females should be maintain etiquette. After all they came in office for doing work and not for cat walk.

Hahahaha, you have rightly pointed out. People are there for working and not walking on the ramp. Yes, I had also seen people with dress codes working in companies. A scheduled bank near our place also did the same some months ago.

I am not against freedom of women but for a moment they should be understand that attraction of opposite sex is natural thing.

It works both ways so what do men do about it ? The problem is with our society and upbringing which is all wrong, giving far too much importance to men and overlooking their many faults wheras blow up anything that a woman does...Dress code and attraction should not have anything to do with each other but Indian men have a one track mind and thats the crux of thhe matter !
Law makers are restricting everything of ladies, why not there is a law, that men should not look ladies so that they will not feel uncomfortable, why everything is being made to see that it is the ladies that distracts all, as it is for sure men is the crux of all problems and if a man cannot work in these environments then there is probably something wrong with him.

There is definitely something very wrong in the men, and that is their superegoistic, male chauvinistic attitude and self-proclaimed superiority over everyone else. This is the cause for most of the conflicts, crimes and violence, and poor women get blamed for being the cause of those!

Men and women both normally work together and everyone wears proper dress. I don't think that any man or woman would go to office in fancy dress. These days Jeans are worn by men and women both and there is no issue as far as working is concerned. But being a casual dress, this does not seem appropriate.

There was a time when the women employees would be less. Then the staff generally wanted that women employees should not be posted in their section. Dress was immaterial. Men are in habit of casual talk and use vulgar language that they cannot use in presence of women. Presence of a woman would curtail their freedom of loose talk.

But why do they have to have any loose talk within an office or work place ? that shows the work culture of our society ...There is a time and place for everything ! We had a few MLAs watching pornography while the state parliament was in session, and although watching porn is left to the individual, doing it there led to their dismissal , thanks to modern technology and hidden video cameras !

Yes it is all about a man or woman is brought up. I can see there is no dress code here in most places apart the departmental stores and some utility services and people what they like. (Some of the dresses worn here or no dresses worn at all in public places like beaches can send us Indians to dreamland perhaps) but no one cares to give a second glance. This is all about how we were brought up. Time for us to grow up and reduce the bad acts going on in our society. It is all our fault if men or some women are doing bad.

Presence of women staff improves the office environment. I just mentioned the situation decades ago when there very very few women. In an office, there were no female staff. One woman was transferred to that office. She was posted in my section. The staff had now to be more controlled. Some tried that she go to some other group. She also like a change. when she was posted to another group, the male staff felt relieved as they could talk in any way. Now there is hardly any office that does not have many female staff. So the office decorum is now better.

Yes it is definitely a different set up now with both male and female employees mixing freely without any inhibitions but here is also a section of society that is unable to handle this equality and thats where the problem comes in...It is men with such feudal thinking that end up raping and abusing women !

Most banks have a dress code , in fact ICICI bank even has uniform for its employees so do a few other banks... Dress code is good since it gives the ofices and working places a formal look and hopefully make the employees too become more work orientd

Even big retail outlets have a dress code that helps customers to know, whom to talk regarding their problems. Sometimes a customer mistakes another customer to feel embarrassed seeing an awkward smile on another customer's face.

After Railways in India, the largest industries like,Steel industry SAIL and RINL, Rashtriys Ispat Nigam Limited had been following the dress code since long. Its a flexible dress code for women employees. It varies from Sari to skirt and blouse. Women are free to choose the type of dress that suits them. But the colour of the uniform should be Grey and lighter grey should be followed.

That's right. Many insttitutions have their dress code and the color as well. I too have seen some institutions here in my city that have the same color code as well, though the females, as you mentioned can choose to go for sarees or dresses here. That's only their choice.
