Uttappa is a very common and tasty south Indian recipe and various healthy and delicious varieties of Uttappa are available. But this uttappa is unique in itself. It is made up of spinach, oats and beet and research have proved that all these three ingredients have anti cancer properties. Let us have a look on the health benefits of these vegetables.

1) Oats: It is reduces cholesterol, maintains blood-sugar kevel, helps to control hypertension, keeps the body system clean by reducing constipation, very useful to control weight gain. Its insoluble fibers are anti cancerous in nature.

2) Spinach- This leafy vegetable has very less calorie. They are rich in iron and vitamin k. They contain ample flavonoids which act as anti cancer.

3) Beet-The beet root also has low calories. They are rich in carbohydrates. Research has proved that the beet root guard against colon cancer.


Oats-2 bowls

Finely chopped spinach - 1bowl

Grated beet - 1/2 bowl

Garlic, ginger and green chili paste - 1 tbspoon

Gram flour-1/2 bowl

Semolina-1/2 bowl

Salt to taste


Grind spinach by adding water to make a fine paste. Add oats and grated beet into it. Now add ginger, garlic and chili paste. Mix it properly and add gram flour and semolina to the mixture. Mix salt to taste.Now add water as required to make a consistent batter.Put few drops of oil on a non-stick pan. Spread the batter evenly n the pan. Fry the uttappa from both sides till it becomes golden brown. Serve hot with coconut chutney and lemon slice.
