Oh! I forgot to add in my previous comment that while wives keep fast in exchange they receive gift from their husbands. It's almost ike Raksha Bandhan and Bhai Dooj but yes, in these festivals there is no such long fasting.

Shampa Sadhya said thank you to usha manohar for his/her reply to the topic Karva chauth celebrations in India..
Shampa Sadhya wrote: Thanks @usha manohar for asking this question and it has no reply but a new trend is beginning and that is many young husbands are keeping fast on that day which is quite a good sign. Bengalis also do not have this festival. I first learnt about this festival from Hindi films and now in Delhi I get to see married women celebrating the festival. Ladies very keenly dress up on this day.     I too know about this festival through hindi films where it is romanticised ..In a film called Shaan, which was shown recently on the TV, the wife played by Rakhee is getting ready to celebrate the festival with her husband ( Sunil Dutt)  and hears the news that he has been killed...This is a blog written by twinkle Khanna on Karva Chaut ,who incidentally  has become a very humorous writer.. http://www.bollywoodlife.com/news-gossip/twinkle-khanna-shares-her-karva-chauth-experience/

@usha manohar Thanks for having the same kind of opinion but today I would like to draw your attention towards another point. This did not happen only with you but on different threads I have noticed this repetition by another users. Don't take it otherwise but when I was totally new I wrote replies consecutively without knowing the rule. I had no intention to break the rule but you pointed it out very harshly. You simply accused me of breaking the rule. Mistake may happen and when one is new then if old members help them to learn the rules then it becomes easier for the new member. Today, here you wrote consecutively and you can find @anil wrote consecutively on this thread only. I know the issue was buried but I still dig it out to remind you that you being an old member a mistake happened and I was totally new. So, kindly do not blame anyone so blindly.

The discussion on this thread reminds me of the Bollywood movie 'Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge'.

Religion is not written on the forehead of any person. India and Indian are known for adoption. India is safe for all. But who want to set in India should be said with proud, I am Indian.    I am sure all Indians would say They are Indians with a lot of pride but Pakistanis coming to stay here, earn here and get some benefit will not say so and cannot be expected to say so.. The age old athithi devobava has become passe now and it is the story of camel and the tent , that is prevalent now..

Honestly I did not know this...I knew that today was the death anniversary of Indira Gandhi since no one could forget all the confusion and problems that followed for common people .Our city was forcibly shut down for 5 days and people had no milk supply, vegetables or transportation and no hospitals were allowed to function.. I was not aware that Sardar Patel was born on the same day !

There you are sir @chinmoymukherjee, this is what I also wanted to point out that usually the politicians act according to their advantage. This time may be the opposition succeeded in arranging a protest by the intellectual class against the ruling party while the ruling party failed in taking the writers and all in their favour. That's the story and the ruling party is not acting strongly to control this barbarism, why? This is ridiculous. They must step in strongly. From the very beginning Anupam Kher spoke against the return of the award so if it is said that he is against this policy because he is the supporter of the ruling party. So, this solves no problem. Some will support and some will speak against it but the party which is in power must act fast to keep this intolerance under control.

But for all it public of Bihar is responsible who is giving support to these type of persons. At present Modi is best one leader in Indian politics. Modi is sincer for development of country. He have plan for the country. But not only opposition parties but some persons of BJP are also stacking obstacles. I agree with you Anil. Yes. It is true that people of Bihar were driven into dark ages by these political leaders like Nitish and Lalu for decades and decades. First of all it is necessary for the people of Bihar to understand the reality. Modi is an opportunity. People should utilize this opportunity for their own good. Statements like " Bahari " are the indicators of narrow mindedness of these political leaders. Every citizen of India is Indian, including Sonia Gandhi. These statements are only election stunt. Lalu Prasad know only one formula of politics, it is castisme religion. Once he said to his college at a public meeting "vikas Ukas Kya Hota Hai, Sampardyika Par Bolo. We all know Politicians are opportunists. They are always on the look out for an opportunity and jump to that side which is profitable to them. They are called " Jump Jilaanis."

@Gulshan you have hit the nail on its head by spelling out the distribution of duties between RSS and BJP and the purposeful confusion being generaterd.
